Rideshare Insurance for Uber or Lyft Drivers in PA

Plymouth Rock has rideshare insurance for Uber or Lyft drivers in PA that can give you increased coverage while you’re participating in the sharing economy. And, the policy covers many other rideshare companies as well!

Yes, there is some insurance provided by rideshare companies. However, you may not always be fully covered by this insurance. And, it’s common for personal auto policies across the industry to not cover you while driving for rideshare companies.

Why should you bother with additional rideshare insurance? Well, coverage gaps could mean you have to pay for damage to your car or for your medical expenses without help from your rideshare company insurance. Plymouth Rock’s rideshare endorsement for part-time drivers can help you avoid some of those potential coverage gaps.

Let’s talk! Call 855-993-4470 or talk to your local agent to get covered for rideshare driving today.

Typical Rideshare-Provided Insurance

To start, there are three periods of rideshare driving:

  1. You’ve activated the rideshare app and are waiting for someone to request a ride.
  2. The app has matched you with a passenger and you head to pick them up.
  3. You’re passenger gets in and you’re off!

Rideshare companies (their technical name is “transportation network companies” or TNCs) generally provide low-limit coverage during the first period. During period 1, TNC policies usually only provide low-limit coverage for injuries you may cause to others or damage to others’ property. And, they do not typically cover damage to your car.

The coverage TNCs provide for periods 2 and 3 is usually broader than in period 1. However, during periods 2 and 3, a typical TNC policy only provides drivers with low-limit coverage for their own injuries, and potentially higher collision and comprehensive deductibles than drivers carry on their personal auto policy.

Plymouth Rock’s Rideshare Insurance

Plymouth Rock’s rideshare endorsement helps drivers cover some potential insurance gaps. There are two options:

  • The basic rideshare driver endorsement. This is excess coverage that expands what you receive from TNCs in period 1.
  • The enhanced rideshare driver endorsement. This includes the basic coverage, along with excess coverage for periods 2 and 3. Plus, Plymouth Rock will cover the difference in the physical damage deductible on the driver’s personal policy and the deductible on the TNC policy in those two periods.

You may be thinking: “the coverage costs a lot, right?” Actually, adding this coverage costs less than you might think.
