How to Lower Car Insurance Costs

Like all insurance companies, Plymouth Rock uses a variety of factors to determine your rate. Some of the aspects that influence your rate are under your control and can be adjusted to save you money. Below are some guidelines to show how you can change your coverage options to lower your car insurance costs.

Please keep in mind that, in some cases, saving money on your policy means you will be assuming more risk. We highly recommend consulting with your agent or speaking with one of our licensed specialists before purchasing or making changes to your policy. You should make sure you have the appropriate level of coverage to meet your unique needs.

Choosing Higher Deductibles

A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket in the event of a loss. One of the ways to decrease your auto insurance rates is to select higher deductibles. However, you will be responsible for the higher deductibles in the unfortunate event of an accident. Selecting a comfortable balance for you is important.

Selecting Health Care Primary

If you have health insurance that covers injuries resulting from automobile accidents, you can select the Health Care Primary option to designate your health insurer as your primary source of medical benefits. This option can lower your Personal Injury Protection (PIP) premium by up to 25% on each insured automobile. Medicare, Medicaid, New Jersey Family Care Plans (provided by provided by Aetna Better Health, AmeriGroup Community Care, Horizon NJ Health, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan or WellCare) cannot be used for the Health Care Primary option.  Learn about selecting the health care primary option.

Driving Safely

Your driving record is one factor that influences your rate. While you can’t change the past, driving carefully will favorably affect your rate in the future as previous incidents are dropped over time. Our company also offers a special defensive driving discount for customers who complete an MVC approved defensive driving course. If you’re looking for tips on how to lower automobile insurance rates, this discount is a great way to benefit your wallet and keep you safe on the road.

Dropping Coverage for Older Cars

Carrying liability insurance is the law for all cars on the road, but additional coverage may be unnecessary for older vehicles. Depending on the value of your car, paying for comprehensive and collision coverage and being responsible for those deductibles may not make sense. If you are in the market for a new car, remember that some makes and models generally result in lower rates. Speak with your agent or call us for estimated costs before your purchase.

Adding Discounts

Did you know that we offer group discounts to a variety of professional associations, community colleges, gyms, and other organizations in New Jersey? If you don’t recognize your employer or group in our list, be sure to give us a call. This discount extends to employees of the many businesses belonging to the chambers of commerce throughout the state.
