In addition to picking your own pumpkins, apples and other fruit, many farms offer a variety of activities like hay rides, corn mazes and pumpkin painting. Below is one of our favorite recipes to try out when you return, along with a list of some of our favorite local farms.

While biscuits might not be as popular as they were in Gramma's day, this pumpkin biscuits recipe may change your family's mind.


  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup Mashed, Cooked Pumpkin
  • 3 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 4 Tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • 1 Tbsp. Shortening

Preparation Directions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees
  2. Mix together flour, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice, and salt
  3. Blend in shortening
  4. Add in pumpkin and brown sugar, mixing well
  5. Roll out dough onto a floured cutting board
  6. Cut biscuits with a cookie or biscuit cutter
  7. Place biscuits onto a greased cookie sheet
  8. Bake for 20 minutes
