Stop right there! Put the pumpkins and cinnamon-scented pinecones down. Autumn doesn’t officially arrive until September 22, so there’s still time to squeeze in a last minute summer getaway! Breezy weekend getaways are a fantastic opportunity to escape the daily grind on a limited budget.
As New Jersey residents, we’re very fortunate. Aside from the fact that New Jersey is just an awesome state to live in, we’re close to a variety of other attractions.
Here are some last minute NJ summer getaways:
Dreaming of Sin City? Think Atlantic City! With the busy summer season coming to an end there are a variety of discount packages available, so be sure to check online and through a travel agent. Try your luck in one of Atlantic City’s casinos. Stuff your face at one of the dozens of eateries. Rainforest Café is one of my personal favorites. But please keep in mind they do frown on yelling out like Tarzan or attempting to swing from a vine. I found this out the hard way. Or bring your beach chair and lounge on the beach. Ready to “Do AC”? Then visit https://www.atlanticcitynj.com/ to get started.
Are you more of a thrill seeker? Try Wildwood or Coney Island. Both feature a variety of rides and classic boardwalk games that are great for kids of all ages (including adults)! Both feature fireworks displays through Labor Day and beach access is free. But, please be safe – lifeguards are not around following Labor Day. You can find more information about Wildwood at https://wildwoodsnj.com/. For information about Coney Island, visit https://www.coneyisland.com/tourist-information.
Prefer to get back in touch with nature? Visit the Delaware Water Gap! I grew up in this area and can’t say enough about this hidden treasure. Check out the national park where you can swim, stroll along the river, hike, and bike! Diving, river rafting, and camping are also available. With breathtaking views and waterfalls, it’s a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the week. To see all that the Delaware Water Gap has to offer, visit https://www.nps.gov/dewa/index.htm.
Want to get your fitness on and get away from it all? Try a Get Up and Ride bike tour of Brooklyn! It’s still nice out folks; don’t stay cooped up inside sweating to the oldies. These bike tours are great because you’re able to see the quirky culture of this New York City neighborhood and explore sites that only locals know. Riders of all levels are welcome to explore bike-friendly routes. Plus, your helmet features a headset so you won’t miss a thing! For more information or to book a tour, visit https://www.unlimitedbiking.com/new-york/.
Summer may be coming to an end but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end too. The list above includes some of my favorite weekend getaway spots. What are your favorite weekend getaways? The team at Plymouth Rock Assurance is always looking for new places to explore so please don’t keep them to yourself!
