We’ve all been there – that situation where a fellow motorist acts up. You know, that guy who runs a stop sign, blows through a red light, tailgates, speeds, weaves in and out of traffic, or even directs a not-so-nice hand gesture in your direction. After cursing under your breath you check the rear view mirror hoping you see that police officer catching him in the act!
Aggressive drivers fueled by road rage should not be taken lightly. These situations can quickly get out of hand.
- Remain calm and keep a reasonable distance between yourself and an aggressive driver.
- Avoid eye contact and ignore any rude gestures.
- Do not to speed up or challenge an aggressive driver, as this could endanger yourself and other uninvolved vehicles on the road.
- Avoiding aggressive drivers with road rage is the best solution.
Something else to keep in mind; if you see an aggressive driver on the road next to a big 18-wheel truck, stay away! The massive size, lack of maneuverability, and increased number of blind spots inherent to 18-wheelers puts nearby drivers in great risk when an aggressive driver is in proximity.
Driving aggressively is not worth it. You are putting yourself, your passengers, and other drivers at risk. And if you see an aggressive driver on the road, stay away!
In fact, many auto insurance companies, including Plymouth Rock Assurance, offer discounts for drivers who complete defensive driving courses.
