Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to just be about being with that special someone. It can simply be about being with the people you love the most, the people who know you the best, the people who can handle a cross-country road trip with you and still want to be your buddy when you get there. So who cares if you have a date or not on February 14? You have people that love you, and what better way to celebrate than a movie night marathon of the best road trip buddy movies of all time? Fire up the popcorn maker and set a hot date with your favorite people and your TV.
In honor of February 14 and Valentine’s Day, here are 14 buddy road road trip movies the folks at Plymouth Rock Assurance love:
#1 The Muppet Movie – What says love more than googly eyes and felt?
#2 Thelma & Louise – Two gals who live life on their own terms — sounds like a great trip to me.
#3 National Lampoon’s Vacation – The Griswolds are hilarious, and honestly it makes my family look normal.
#4 Little Miss Sunshine – It’s sweet, funny and an Oscar winner. What else do you need?
#5 Easy Rider – Some call it the ultimate road trip movie. It’s the good, the bad and the ugly of the 1960s in one movie. Just remember — always wear a helmet.
#6 Sideways – It’s more than just wine. It’s about life, friends and love.
#7 Planes, Trains and Automobiles – John Candy plus Steve Martin on a road trip … need we say more?
#8 The Motorcycle Diaries – It’s a road trip with a South American flair about some of the most interesting people in history.
#9 Two for the Road – Two amazing actors recount their lives and loves along a trip in southern France. It looks great, they look great and it will have you planning your next vacation.
#10 The Sure Thing – Directed by Rob Reiner and staring 80s man John Cusack, this one has all the angst you can shake a stick at.
#11 It Happened One Night – This one is a classic. Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert and Frank Capra created the map for all road trip movies.
#12 Rain Man – Funny, brilliant and beautiful, this one gets us every time.
#13 Smokey and the Bandit – Sometimes you just need a little more Burt Reynolds in your life. This is the perfect way to get it. Plus it’s got Sally Field!
#14 Almost Famous – Great music dominates this new classic about being young and chasing your dreams no matter what.
As always, remember these are just movies. So no matter how cool it looks or fun it seems, always drive responsibly and safely, and fight distracted driving. That is how we all get home safe.
